In Loving Memory of Peter Beukema Sr.

It is with the heaviest of hearts that we announce the passing of one of our Founders, Peter Beukema Sr. We truly know the lasting marks he left on every team member, friend, and guest that he encountered and are taking the time to live in those moments every day at Suburban Inns as we continue to create those lasting moments, he taught us so well to do.

In 1979 Peter Sr. And Carol Beukema founded Suburban Inns – a company that is so much more than the seven hotels and four restaurants we currently operate – it is a family for over 600 employees.

Sr helped create this company with a true passion for hospitality and embodied our core values all through life: quality, responsible, and helpful. He taught so many individuals through life with his “Seniorisms” on how to properly wash windows, take out the trash, take care of your property, and so much more. Through this all, his biggest emphasis was making sure the atmosphere within Suburban Inns always remains family focused.

As we grieve about his passing, we also surround ourselves in lessons we have learned and memories we have shared with him. A Celebration of Life that we can share these memories with the loved ones of the Beukema family at will be held on June 7, 2026 from 2-6pm at Embassy Suites in downtown Grand Rapids.
